Essential Functions • Assures quality care by adhering to professional standards, healthcare organization policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and The Joint Commission standards • Maintains cooperative relationships among healthcare team members • Maintains safe, secure, and healthy patient care environment by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations; adhering to organization standards and policies, and to legal regulations; alerting others regarding potential concerns • Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records • Protects healthcare organization value by keeping information confidential; cautioning others regarding potential breaches • Monitor, record, and report symptoms or changes in patients' conditions to appropriate healthcare team member • Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, or evaluate patient care plans • Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions • Monitor all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity • Instruct individuals, families, or other groups on topics such as health education, disease prevention and management • Provides patient care by reviewing providers orders; communicating the nursing care plan and all pertinent information to other members of the health care team; coordinating with other healthcare providers; providing physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, families/support person; conferring with providers • Resolves patient issues by conferring with parties involved • Maintaining standards of professional nursing care • Promotes a culture of safety by maintaining awareness of patient s safety needs at all times; acts as a patient advocate by voicing concerns, using chain of command as necessary; adheres to safety practices i.e. safety huddles, bedside shift report • Develops nursing care plans by obtaining medical histories; examining patients; documenting patient physical condition, psychological status, and influencing social factors; conferring with family/support person; developing a nursing diagnosis; establishing nursing care objectives; defining nursing interventions, schedules, and timetables • Administer medications, wound care, and numerous other personalized interventions and monitor patients for reactions or side effects • Preparing patient for and assisting with exams as needed. • Explaining procedures/treatment/discharge to patient and family members to alleviate apprehension and to verify understanding of procedure/discharge • IV therapy competency including care for central lines • Recognize adverse signs and symptoms and quickly react in emergency situations • Appropriate supervision and delegation of duties to Unlicensed Assistive Personnel and other ancillary staff • Assures compliance with Joint Commission standards regarding National Patient Safety Goals and other areas of accreditation. • Other specified duties as assigned for patient care and unit specific competencies • Any other duties as needed to drive to the Vision, fulfill the Mission, and abide by the Values of the organization • Attends Neuroscience Nursing course as assigned by nurse manager
