REQUIRED SKILLS / CERTS / EXP: • Minimum Years of Experience: Must have 2 years of surgical unit experience • Traveler Experience: Travel experience is preferred by not required • Locals Accepted / Rate Difference: Yes • Required Skills: Interpretation of dysrhythmias, Management of dysrhythmias, use of Rapid Response Teams, Blood Product Administration, Central line care/management, Peripheral Line Care/Management, Surgical drains, Nasal Cannula, Non-invasive airway management, Isolation Precautions, Wound Care/Wound Vac • Certs: BLS, ACLS, NIH • PREFERRED SKILLS / CERTS / EXP: titrate cardiac drips, titrate vasoactive drips, Chest tubes-Emerson/Pleur-evac
JOB DETAILS: • Ratios: 1:6 for floor for surgical/medicine inpatient patients. • 13-26 week contracts accepted • 36 or 48 hours accepted. If 48, then no OT billed until after 48 hours. • Shift: 12 HR NIGHTS; • RTO: 7 days MAX for AYA AUTO OFFER • Float Requirement: when needed to like units • Weekend Requirement: every other weekend • Contract staff will be assigned and expected to work a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team. Contract staff may be required to report to work during a catastrophic event, mass casualty or disaster. Consolidation to the Centralized Office mid contract may occur and the contract staff may be preassigned to units as needed
PATIENT DIAGNOSES: Wide range of patient diagnoses that have had or plan to have surgery or involved in a trauma: • Cellulitis • Appendicitis • Cholecystitis • Diverticulitis • Motor Vehicle Accidents • Gun Shots • Stabbings • Falls • Various Cancers • Kidney Stones • Bowel Obstruction • Peripheral Vascular Disease • Limb Ischemia • Hernia • Gangrene
SPECIAL PROCEDURES / UNIT DETAILS: Wide range of any inpatient surgical procedure, as well as trauma: • Cholecystectomy • Appendectomy • Hernia Repair • TURP • Ostomy Creation or Closure • Wound Debridement • Tumor Removal • Kidney Stone Removal • Amputations • Fem Pop Bypass
SPECIAL EQUIPMENT: • Wound Vacs • Chest Tubes • NG tube/Corpak • JP Drains • Hemovac Drains • Penrose Drains
UNIT SYSTEMS (Medication, Documentation, Communication): Pyxis, EPIC, SBAR
SCHEDULING TYPE: Schedule as needed as needed
UNIT ORIENTATION: 2 Days of hospital orientation, 24 hours of floor training
SCRUBS: All Navy or Navy on bottom/White Top
MUST Pass EKG Testing prior to start for this specialty.
Combination acuity unit: Adult medical surgical and surgical stepdown.
COVID-19 Vaccine: Not Required
Flu Vaccine: Required - Medical/Religious Exemptions Only
Must have a teamwork approach and meet Novant behavioral expectations in all interactions with patients and staff. Must be able to adhere to Call off policy -STRONGLY ENFORCED.
Candidates may float within hospital or to an affiliate hospital nearby - Please refer to the job description for floating details. It is common for travelers to float to other units based on their skill sets and based on census. Candidate must be comfortable floating based on the job description with no restrictions or special requests.
Charting Exp Required - Epic is most common. Please review the specific job posting for details.
Fatigue Policy: Travelers cannot work more than 5 days in a row and/or more than 60 hours in a week.
