An additional 6 months of experience may be required beyond current years of service, as surgical techs typically undergo a minimum 6-month orientation without being the primary provider. While Level 1 experience is preferred, institutions vary; rotations in Burn, Transplant, and other specialties are especially valued for weekend on-call readiness.
