Unit Notes: Unit/Department MedSurg/Tele Float Pool. The most frequent units they will float to are 6N (36 beds) & 7N (29 beds). Other units: 4N (36 beds), 5S (36 beds), 6S (36 beds), & Critical Care (20 beds).
Nurse:Patient Ratios Mainly 1:5-6 for both days & nights on most units (once or twice a month could have 7 patients toward the end of the shift). Depends on acuity of patients.
Common diagnoses/Types of patients CHF, Cardiac cath, CP, pneumonia, chronic renal disease, COPD, Ortho, & Oncology (perm staff will administer chemo).
Experience or 'Must have' skills All travelers must take & pass a cardiac rhythm exam. They feel that an RN with ACLS should easily be able to pass this.
Are RNs required to titrate drips Will not have to titrate drips.
Charge Nurse/House Supervisor Yes - Every unit has a charge nurse. Day charge does not take patients, Night charge does take patients.
Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios Yes - all units use CNAs.
Weekend Requirements Every-other-weekend. Sat/Sun for both Days/Nights.
Holiday Requirements Work in the holiday rotation schedule with perm staff.
How are units assigned Float Pool RN's will report to the clinical coordinator's office prior to shift start time for unit assignment. RN's could float to all 6 units but will most likely be assigned a 'parent unit' & will only be assigned very basic telemetry patients, within their scope of practice. They must be able to read & interpret strips but will not have to titrate drips.
Scrub Color/Dress Code Royal Blue.
Unit/Department specific orientation 1-2 Shifts with a preceptor.
Additional Notes Cancellation Policy: 2 shifts per 13 week contract.
