Shift: Day 3x12-Hour (07:00 - 19:30); Night 3x12-Hour (19:00 - 07:30). If you accept a 12D/N rotating contract, you may be scheduled for days, nights, or a combination of both, depending on the department s needs. Shift assignments are reviewed every 4-week scheduling period, but changes are not guaranteed and are based on staffing priorities at that time.
Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled and experienced Oncology Nurse to join our team. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive care to adult and geriatric patients diagnosed with various cancers, including endometrial, bladder, renal, ovarian, and cervical cancers. Our unit specializes in providing treatments such as chemotherapy, clinical trials, brachytherapy, and CBI, with a heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls management.
Key Responsibilities: • Provide direct patient care to adult and geriatric patients with cancer diagnoses, ensuring their physical and emotional well-being. • Administer chemotherapy treatments and monitor patients for adverse reactions. • Participate in clinical trials and assist in data collection and documentation. • Perform specialized procedures such as brachytherapy and neobladder care. • Implement infection prevention protocols and ensure a safe environment for patients. • Monitor telemetry readings, interpret dysrhythmias, and respond appropriately to changes in patient conditions. • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and utilize rapid response teams as needed. • Perform feeding tube care and management, including IV therapy, blood product administration, and central line maintenance. • Utilize computerized charting systems, specifically EPIC, to accurately document patient assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
Qualifications: • Registered Nurse (RN) with a minimum of 2 years of experience in Med Surg/Tele nursing. • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. • Proficiency in medical-surgical and telemetry nursing, with the ability to interpret dysrhythmias and provide appropriate interventions. • Experience in oncology-specific procedures such as chemotherapy administration and brachytherapy. • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams. • Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and professional development. • Preferred certification in Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy.
Work Schedule: • Staffing ratios aim for 1:4, but may be adjusted to 1:5 based on unit needs. • Weekends are variable based on unit needs. • No set or blocked scheduling; self-schedule requests are accommodated to ensure a balance of preferences while meeting unit requirements. • The first week of orientation is Monday to Friday dayshift. • The second week consists of 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor.
