Unit Notes: Unit: Thomas Memorial Hospital - CVICU # of beds: There will be 2 beds in PACU for the initial opening of CVICU before they transition to the ICU. ICU bed count is currently at 16 (as part of this phase of remodeling). Ratios: 1:1 for initial phase, then progressing to ICU/ SDU depending on patient needs (1 nurse to 2 patients, sometimes 3 patients in the ICU) Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, Preferred: TNCC preferred (effective 10/21/2025 TNCC was added per Tracey Holmes) Common diagnoses/Types of patients: Critically ill patients with prior heart conditions experiencing complex needs and actual or potential life threatening conditions, invasive and non-invasive hemodynamic monitoring, etc; Age population served is adult and geriatric. Experience or 'Must have' skills: • Current CVICU experience, CRRT, Impella and IABP required, minimum of one to two years of critical care experience. • Must have travel experience. Are RNs required to titrate drips Yes Common titratable &/or set rate drips: Dopamine, Levophed, Vaso, Dobutamine, Argatroband, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, Lasix Charge Nurse/House Supervisor: Charge Nurse primarily without patients/House Supervisor 24/7 Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios: No Hospitalist or Intensivist in house: Hospitalist 24/7, Intensivist not always RT in ICU 24/7: Not stationed in ICU but are readily available as needed RT Equipment (vents, Cpap, BiPap, etc): BiPap, Cpap, Mechanical ventilation via Trach and ET tube, telemetry, IV pumps, sequential compresson devices, specialty beds Is there tele on this unit Monitor Techs RNs read strips Yes, no Monitor Tech, RNs read strips Shifts & Scheduling: 6:45 am - 7:15 pm or 6:45 pm to 7:15 am Weekend Requirement: Every other Holiday Requirement: Rotational Is there a call or standby requirement No Floating Requirements: Required to float to ICU. If not needed in ICU, would be required to float to Stepdown. Scrub Color/Dress Code: • RN/LPN - Navy • C.N.As/Monitor Techs - Dark Grey/Pewter • Scrubs must be solid color, no embroidery and/or patterns on scrubs. • WVU Medicine or solid color fleece zip-ups may be worn in grey, black, navy or royal blue. • Solid undershirts may be worn in white, grey, or black in matching color to the scrub top. • Closed toed shoes only. No crocs. Unit/Department specific orientation: • First day general hospital orientation • Full day of Nursing Orientation for RNs/LPNs • Computer training (1/2 day for C.N.As, full day for nurses) • Two, 12 hour orientation shifts with a preceptor • Will receive an abbreviated Initial Skills Checklist due 90 days from start date. Cancellation Policy: 2 shifts per 13 week assignment/extension. 1 shift for less than 13 weeks. Charting System: EPIC BSN Required: No License to Submit: Yes, willing to wait Shift Notes: variable shift day or night based on needs per schedule rotation of 4 weeks will have rotating weekends and holiday commitment
